African National Congress Celebrates 100 Years
The South African liberation movement began over a century ago. Under the banner of the African National Congress, the movement was joined by millions of people throughout the world and led to a free, democratic, non-racial South Africa. The 100th anniversary of the ANC, in 2012, offers a multitude of opportunities to celebrate, to remember and to educate new generations about the struggles – past and present – to overcome racism and injustice. Be part of the “Unity in Diversity” celebrations of the African National Congress in 2012.The ANC is a national liberation movement. It was formed in 1912 to unite the African people and spearhead the struggle for fundamental political, social and economic change. In Chicago, a coordinating committee has come together to encourage many different events and activities in Chicago and the Midwest. We are reaching out to groups to organize lectures, film showings, political activities and cultural events – to celebrate, to remember, to educate and to agitate. For nine decades the ANC has led the struggle against racism and oppression, organizing mass resistance, mobilizing the international community and taking up the armed struggle against apartheid. |
